“Chooky, Internal Exclusion And The Wholesome” by Colin James
She played the bongos
and the congas in
the house band with abandon.
And was the bouncer, similarly with abandon.
The high femmes lined up
just to talk to her.
She got her nickname
from her uncle Floyd,
because as an incredibly cute three year old
she couldn’t pronounce
the word choo-choo train.
Now if late for work she
would hop the Southbound
Freight as far as Inference
Station Depot, then jump off.
Always timing her leap with
a sly semblance of satisfaction.
— Colin James has several chapbooks of poems, Dreams Of The Really Annoying from Writers Knight Press and A Thoroughness Not Deprived Of Absurdity from Pisces’s Porch Press and book of poems, Resisting Probability, from Sagging Meniscus Press. He lives in Massachusetts.
